TWO NEW (or returning) ProXS 3L Engine Models

Mercury is excited to announce the release of the following 3.0L OptiMax Pro XS models featuring the Torque Master gearcase:

    225L Pro XS
    Torque Master
    1-226P73ED

    250L Pro XS
    Torque Master
    1-251P73ED

These models are released for immediate shipment and are eligible for sales programs and warranties, including 5 & Drive in the U.S. Please note that these engines will be built as make-to-order, so please account for additional lead time when placing orders.

Torque Master vs Sport Master gearcases
The 225 and 250 Pro XS Torque Master models will target premium bass boat applications where the engine is typically mounted higher on the transom and the boat speed approaches or surpasses 80 miles per hour. The features of the Torque Master gearcase will deliver improved handling and driveability at these higher speeds.

Key product highlights of the new Pro XS Torque Master models:

    Black-painted 1.75:1 Torque Master gearcase
1.25" propshaft (vs. 1" propshaft on standard Pro XS models) for added durability when running at elevated engine heights
Cambered skeg for improved handling and driveability at higher speeds
Front water pickups along with standard side inlets to ensure optimal cooling when running at elevated engine heights
Requires 1.25" solid hub kit from Mercury Racing (#840389K06)
Standard (non-Racing) Pro XS engine graphics
Available in 20" (L) models only
The new Pro XS Torque Master models will supplement the current mainstream Pro XS product; therefore, the standard 225L and 250L Pro XS models with the Verado gearcase will remain in the offering, as they continue to offer better performance on bass hulls requiring less aggressive engine mounting heights.

The technology profile above provides additional detail and acts as a guide to help you and your customers match the best 225 or 250 horsepower engine to any given bass hull.
    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Since these two models will now be available, production of the 225XS (Torquemaster) and 250XS (Torquemaster) has now ceased (and these racing models will be replaced with the above noted ProXS engine models).

Re: TWO NEW (or returning) ProXS 3L Engine Models (EuropeanAM)

    Thanks Don.
I have a 2007 250 ProXS on a bay boat that will sell next week and am considering a 2010 250 ProXS on a new rig, (unless I downsize, then the 150 ProXS) - tbd.

My 2007 ProXS HAS the fat shaft torque master, so Merc is saying that LU is now available again, right? What is the real difference with the Verado LU +/-?

Also what notable changes have you seen on the 250 ProXS between 2007 and 2010 beyond the coil vendor changes?
    Thanks,

    Re: TWO NEW (skeeter77346)

This does mean that there will be TWO ProXS models available for the 225 & 250:

One model with the Verado-style gearcase (best for rigs 77 MPH and below)
One model with the Torquemaster (fat shaft) Gearcase (best for rigs 78-85 MPH).

Other recently noted changes include air attenuator, flywheel dampening, and of course, some calibration changes.

    Re: TWO NEW (EuropeanAM)

also MERC RACING, 300XS (TM / SM / FM cases), 250 SPORT XS, and 225 SPORT XS (SM cases) are still hand built in race shop but blocks are from production side, they still check sleeves and balance crank etc. Hard mounts and exhaust tuning, ECU calibrations more aggressive.
the 3 above motors are dyno'd at race shop before shipping

Re: TWO NEW (or returning) ProXS 3L Engine Models (EuropeanAM)

Just a little off the subject, I got a 2008 225 pro xs serial# 1B720831. I need a little clarification, My lower unit is painted black, has fat shaft that requires steel hub prop insert, 4 hole nose cone water pick ups.

Do I have Torque master? This has come up in another conversation recently about the verado gearcases being put on lately and I was wondering about mine.
One other question can Fatshafts but put in verado gearcases?
    Thanks for the info.

    Re: TWO NEW (jbgambler)

By virtue of your gearcase being painted black, and having a FAT (Heavy-Duty) Propshaft, you would have either a Fleetmaster or Torquemaster Gearcase.

Look at the SKEG on the STARBOARD or RIGHT side. It should have a "cast-in torque-tab" (hence the name "Torquemaster").

Your engine was manufactured with the torquemaster gearcase.

    Re: TWO NEW (EuropeanAM)

Thanks Don, I went on the mercury parts express website and punched serial number in and kept showing torquemaster in the description but also let me look at other options.

I wanted to make sure. Thanks again.
