Help w/ Lower Unit Pressure Test

I'm fairly certain my driveshaft seal is bad as it has slow bubbles coming from the seal when pressure is applied to the case.

My concern is with the driveshaft play, , I have the OMC and SELOC manual, neither give a spec for play that I have seen. ( other that completely tearing down the case which I hope to avoid unless necessary)

If you look at the video (click the pic to play), the first part shows the play in the shaft.. The second shows the seal leaking air ( you should be able to hear it as the shaft is moved from side to side)

I have a seal on order but for peace of mind,

    a. is this a normal amount of movement?
    b. should the seal maintain pressure even when the driveshaft is moved to the left and right, up and down or only while sitting static in the center ?

    Thanks,

    -j

normal free-play as you have a 2 piece driveshaft. The upper shaft is a loose spline fit into the lower shaft. Inspect the bearing for rust and debris and replace the assembly for about $75 if needed. Be sure the o-ring around it is the new style brown colored one.

    Thanks Seahorse..

So if the bearings & assembly look ok do I still need to replace the entire assy, or is simply replacing the seal & o-ring ok ?

Im not sure how much it actually moves on the XYZ axis during normal operation.. seems like the powerhead would keep it pretty contained. Should I expect this to be sealed through moving the driveshaft to the left / right etc?
