possible rpm problem solved, need 2nd opinion ?

after look and reading this link
    http://www.bbcboards.net...otors

i think i have finally figured out why my engine runs really rough at idle while in gear. correct me if im wrong, but this pic is of the top of my engine, and the timing arm is in the incorrect position.

if i run it back against the ramp like it should be, it will get back to my rpms that i am looking for. . . . right ?

Maybe I set mine (96 intruder 150) to advance with the throttle opening after it had slipped. In other words when the throttle plates move so should the advance arm. You can see both when you move the throttle with the top cover removed. Make sure the little rubber is still on the throttle arm as this will change the adjustment and also keep you from gaining full throttle.

This adjustment prevented my engine from stalling at take-off and might have improved my idle some.

The most amazing thing that improved my idle quality was running one tank of fuel with a can of sea foam. I plan on decarbing after I have ran a couple more cans through her.

well i adjusted my throttle linkage for final adjustment of the roller to touch the timing advance ramp and increased the timing 1 click and ran her today. the johnson has always ran great but had some rough idle because it was a little out of adjustment. not now ! lighting response and smooth as glass idle.

What is your timing set at now? Did you set it with a timing light or just advanced it 1 degree?

i adjusted it 1 click on the low end adjustment on the top of the engine.

up at the top left where is says "low" is where i adjusted it
( the ramp and roller touch now this is an older pic when it was out of wack )
