    Rectifier/Regulator Replacement - No Tach

Long time reader - 1st time poster in this section. Model # E110TLCUR. Serial #R 1492746. Tach reading is intermittent at best. Mostly nothing, then I'll look down occassionally and its working or jumpy. Prop guy told me to change the tack to start. I did and nothing. Only ran it on the hose in the driveway for a little while. My "research" seems to indicate the problem would be the rectifier/regulator. I am moderately mechanically inclined, but have very little experience testing electrical issues. This has been the deal for a very long time, but the engine runs and performs great otherwise. I went to have some prop work done, and the guy kept asking me about my RPMs. When I told him of my tach situation, he strongly urged me to get a working tach. Must I remove the flywheel is rectifier/regulator is to be replaced? Is it something I can do myself? How much am I looking at to have it done? Thanks in advance for your help guys.

You can check it at the back of the tach, remove all wires from the tach, connect a DC volt meter red lead to the Grey wire and black lead to black wire, start engine, with water attached, at idle Grey lead should have 9 volts, less or no volts bad rectifier or bad wiring.

Another thing, look at the back of the control box if a surface mount, see if there is an electrical plug with three wires, if so this is your tach power wires, they get pulled out sometimes.

Another test is to put your voltmeter on the gray wire and ground, then turn the key to ON. There should be no voltage at the gray wire, if there is, then the regulator is bad.
