anybody ever replace a broken trailer bunk?

I noticed the other day that one of the bunks on my EZ-Loader was broken. Looks like the 2x4 under the carpet broke in half, but the carpet is holding it together.

From the rear, it is the shorter one on the far left.

Could this be a warranty issue? It's an '05...

Shouldn't be too much of a big deal to fix, just need to know if anybody has had this problem and if there are any tricks...

I've replaced the bunks on my old '86 trailer. It was nothing. The hardest part was finding a place to dump the boat. I bought the treated wood and screws from lowes, them cut them to size, carpeted them, then went to the river to put them on. Was a piece of cake.

I did mine the same way. Had everything ready -- went out to the lake dumped the boat, fixed the trailer -- then went fishing.

I was wondering if I can reuse the carpet on the existing bunk or is it glued?

I really think I'll have a hard time matching the carpet from what's available around here. I could go ahead and make one up before I take the boat out and use my portable impact wrench to change it out. I like the idea of going fishing while it stabilizes...

If it was me and I had 1 go I would just do all 4 at the same time and be done with it Oh and I think its time for me to think about it also but I think I'm going to go this way

and you might as well make one extra as a spare for the next time one goes...even if it's in 5 years from now

Re: anybody ever replace a broken trailer bunk? (BjBnet!)

I know this is an old post, but one of mine is rotted. Can I re-use that carpet and nail gun it back on? How is the carpet attached?

Any feedback from those who've done this already?

    thanks!

The carpet will probaly rip to shreds as you pull it off, as mine did. But if it comes off easy, sure re-use it.

It is cheaper to fix it right the first time. I replaced all 4 of mine when the carpet wore through on one. I used SS staples and contact cement on the top, although I think the contact cement was overkill.

Made them up in the driveway and went to the ramp 2 days later and bolted them up. Took less than an hour to install. Did it last Winter and had the ramp to myself the whole time.

I'd rather see people search old posts and update the ones we have than starting new ones all over again and let things get burried

My partner has a 25 foot pontoon boat and the boards went bad. We bought 4-20 foot 2x4s treated for $44.00. 30- 2 and 1/2 inch carriage bolts , washers and nuts for $5.00. I have an electric staple gun with stainless steel staples which saved time and sore hands. We cut the boards to length, marked the holes on each and than drilled an 1/8 inch smaller than bolts. Hammer the bolts in tight and carpet over the top and around the bottom of bolts. When we tighten the bolts underneath it pulls the head into the wood under the carpet. This will last much longer than lag bolts. Cheap for 4 20 foot long bunks and took less than 3 hours (and only a 12 pack of Bud)

    Been there...no warranty...
get some treated boards and stainless steel screwbolts and your staple gun....also needlenose, hammer, sharpie, rachet for board bolts...launch boat, rachet off both boards (if one breaks, the other is due)...should be 90 minutes or less...did that may 2006...EZ loader boards do not last long and the non-stainless steel screwbolts rust fast too... my 2006 has some rusty board bolts already!
