Welding a broken trailer side bunk!!! Have a question???

First of all, check out the pics and tell me how bad it is. Im assuming it can be fixed be any competent welder/painter. The main question I have is, will I need to get the boat off the trailer to do it? Theres about 8in from where the welding will be taking place to the fiberglass on the boat. Also what about the proximity to the aluminum step? Thoughts please? I want to take it somewhere locally if the boat doesnt have to come off the trailer. My dealers great but he's about an hours drive one way and I need the boat back ASAP. Last two pics are the best ones I had showing cleareance.

    Thanks in advance!!!

The pix show that the weld is actually stronger then the trailer metal because the welding bead is still intact. My guess would be that there needs to be some grinding and cleaning so for a good job the boat prolly needs to be removed from the trailer. It seems to be a poor design because it is just a butt joint rather than a mortise and tenon-like connection.

    Good luch with that.
