bilge pump area question

My 1995 skeeter 200 zx collects water in the bilge area where my battery trays sit (right beside gas tank). I guess maybe it is running in from around the edges of the lid compartment. Anyone else have this problem...just sitting outside it does it..not from backwash. I have a skeeter cover on it all the time. My guess is that skeeter should have angled those mounting platforms for the battery at a little angle instead of flat so the water would drain down to the bilge pump. The compartment is carpeted and it is making the carpet get pretty soggy! Any help on how I can fix this?

Got a 96 that has the same problem. I eliminated most of it by going to Home Depot and buying some insulation (the stuff with one side that has adhesive) and attaching it to the deck inside the rear hatch cover. When it rains that doesn't help as the bottom deck seems to drain there as well, so I just put it in the garage and open the hatch a put a box fan in the opening and in a day or so it is dry (I do live in Texas heat). I've been tempted to drill a drain hole, but then I wouldn't have the fun of drying out the poorly designed area and would most likely waste my time in some evil way .
