    Electrical question for Z boat

Any advice? When I turn off the breaker in the battery compartment my batteries charge fine and normal, when the breaker is on they charge, then charger starts blinking on each battery,go to one red light, go back to green , etc. just seems erratic. All items power fine and run fine. Any ideas what is causing that?

Re: Electrical question for Z boat (SOL)

I only charge mine with both breakers off.....................both the master and the troller breakers. When the breakers are on with the charger on, there is current being used by the boat from the batteries and this is showing up in the charger. I would only charger the batteries with the power switches in the "off" position to eliminate this problem. Wish I could help further, but like mentioned I have never plugged in my charger with the switches "on".............................................. ..RR

Thanks! Makes sense and I thought of that but seems like I had done it like that before with no problem. I will make sure they are off from now on!

The chargers sense the amount of charge in the batteries by voltage, so if you leave the breakers on the draw from the keypad control box will lower the voltage after a bit and the charger senses this and starts charging again (the one red light). With the trolling batteries if you have a MinKota there is also a slight draw with the breaker on and the same thing happens but probably more slowly because of having three batteries to draw on. Get in the habit of turning off the breakers your batteries will be happier.
