    Trim Motor

I have a 96 J150 ELED. How do I pull off the trim motor, I pulled four bolts, 2 screws, lited top cap (metal cone shape) but cannot get bottom piece off of the hydrolic mount? Top cap has the coils and drive gear but the bottom has all the (brushes?) im assuming. It is full of water. That cant be normal, correct. Reason being it quit last weekend. I have power to it just none coming out.TIA

If you have ALL the bolts off tap the motor with a rubber mallet it will come out. Make sure the trim unit is facing you.

i have the top piece off. It looks as if the bottom piece (base) where all the brushes are is still on the mount.

Nope all of the stuff is in the motor, O ring and the housing. You need to tap the motor and release the trim motor wire. Replace the O ring and lube it with triple guard grease. Give the bottom part 5 turns with a screwdriver down and up to center before you install the new motor. Then cycle the motor 6 times and fill the resesvoir.

There is a "how to" at the top of this forum, "John/Rude Tips" that shows how to remove a trim motor.
