    Trim Motor

My Trim motor on my 85 XP150 went out. Did some checking around and seems they run around $200 just for the trim motot itself. Is this about right? Also I believe you have to take the motor off the jackplate or transom to get to the last screw.......anyone know a way around that or a tool that I can get to that screw with.

    Thanks

The trim motor is $206.70, you should be able to remove the six bolts and the tilt rod, lean the trim unit out and get to that back screw.

Big Phillips or an Impact driver to break loose. Follow Rusty's directions and it should lean right back at you no need to remove. Wiring harness may be a B though. CM

    Re: Trim Motor (RUSTY63)

Thanks Rusty and CM. I It looks like the wiring is going to be the easiest as it routed perfectly and excessible all the way up to the trim relay switches. Im determined to get this trim motor off. After dropping $200 on the trim motor....Im not to enthused about paying another $250 to have a dealer ship put it on. 3HRs labor at $72 and hr!

    Re: Trim Motor (RunOnPad1)

Went through this last summer on my '87 225. Followed Rusty's advice above. Having been in salt water it's entire life it wasn't exactly a no brainer but eventually got it done. My bigggest problem was removing the pin which attaches the ram to the engine. It was rusted/corroded in there solid. I eventually used a half inch bit to drill into each end of the pin about 1 1/2 inches then used a 1/2 bolt about 8 inches long to drive it out(along with some heat). All but one bolt came out easily after soaking with Kano Kroil for several hours. Had one mounting bolt which came out easy enough but brought all the surrounding aluminum with it. A helicoil took care of the problem.

Flat Rate on replacing that motor is 1 hour.
