knee replacement question

Dr. has told me he has done all he can do for my knee. I have 2 choices wear a "downloader brace" or partial knee replacement. He said the brace would only work if I wore it all the time. Im not sure I would. Anyone here tried the brace? good? bad? or just go ahead and have the replacement. Thanks

I had both my knees replaced. Best thing I ever did.

Go for the bionic knee. Know several that had them repaced, best thing they did.

My wife had a partial a couple years ago. Helped her a lot with no problems.

No personal experience but my dad had his done and he is more active now than he was 20 years ago. He regrets not having it done before...

    Re: knee replacement question (stranz3529)

This is something that has been worrying me lately. My left knee hurts so bad sometimes I can't even put my weight down on it and then it just gets better. I've been taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM for a couple of months now and it seems to help but just today I was climbing some stairs and it let me know I wasn't completely healed.

How painful is that surgery and how long does it take to fully recover? Does insurance pay for it without a fight?
    Don't worry Ma'am....

Getting my second knee replacement this coming Monday. After getting the first one done I wish I would have gotten both done at the same time, but...

I thought I would be on Easy Street by now but somehow I missed the off ramp!

Dont think I will wear a brace...Im thinking the brace is just a bandaid...Pain is not awful right now, just nagging unless Im active and then it hurts alot

Looking at your age I would try to get further down the road, The ortho guy I saw ( my knees arent so good) told me that the replacements can and do wear out too.

I've got the brace, the ortho doc for the Carolina Panthers made one for me while I was in the Corps. That thing is a freakin medieval torture device and although it helped with the knee pain, it put so much pressure on my knee that it rubbed me raw and I couldn't wear it.

I'll eventually get a replacement but I'm milking my stock ones as long as I can. They've given me hell since I rode (wrecked) MX up into my mid 20's.

    Re: knee replacement question (baseball2828)

I'm going through the same thing, but I've got 2 friends that had the partial one is doing OK and the other is going back to get the total replacement next week after the partial didn't agree with him. I'm trying to wait it out as others on here have mentioned but don't know how long I can do it. They have given me silicone shots that help for about 6 months so I guess I'll keep doing that for awhile until it gets to where I just have to get the replacement.

    Re: knee replacement question (secdawgs)

I had the cortisone and the silicone shots , cortisone felt good for about a week, the silicone did nothing. Hes talking about a partial...Im 50 so I got more days behind than I do ahead
