XD-50 - What color is it supposed to be???

I bought a couple gallons of XD-50 back in March, and it was the dark blue-green color. Just bought a couple more gallons last week, and this time it is dark red color? Any idea why the change in color? Did the dealer sell me the wrong oil, even though I clearly asked for XD-50, and it was marked on the container I have been taking to him as to what I wanted?

    Thanks for any input.

    Dark red sounds like XD-30.

    XD-30 is red.
    XD-50 is blue.
    Xd-100 is a transparent yellow.

Seems either the dealer made a mistake or he got you and probably other good.

Go with the Colors Rusty gave ya and you should be golden.

    Rusty is correct.
Evinrude sells empty gallon jugs for each oil type. The label and the cap on each oil jug type: red, or blue or gold should match the oil color.
maybe someone re-filled incorrectly. A refilled jug will not have a seal under the cap.

    Hi guys.

I have the same problem with my dealer, I bought 6 gallons of XD50,-3 gallons are blue and -3 gallons red.

His explanation was that the blue was going out and the red was the new color for XD50 and that i could mix the two without Any fear, this is in bulk.

Should I trust his statement as the truth? I don't know.

After seeing Rusty's response, I called BRP tech support and asked the very same question. His reply is that it is possible that the oil color has changed, but he was not sure if they had done so.

I then called the dealer. He laughed when I asked the same question, and said he had a number of customers ask the same question, but BRP has both colors out there now for XD-50.

I am still not 100% sure of these answers, especially after reading Rusty's response. If it is, in fact, XD-30, will this cause any problems in a FICHT engine (2003 225 Evinrude)?

I've seen XD25 and XD30 in red but never seen XD50 in red. If you feel that there is some truth to XD50 now coming in red, ask your bulk dealer to show you their drum. That way you can see the lable on the drum and also check to see what color comes out of it.
