    E-Tech no break-in?

    Hello everyone,

This is my first post (as you can see). I have read many posts over the past few months and enjoyed everyone, the BBC is an awesome site for information.

I have just purchased my first "real" bass boat a Stratos 200 Pro XL with a 225 HO E-Tech, wooohoooo, can't wait as it should be here next week. My question has to do with the no break-in period for the E-Tech. I have a hard time to think such a big power house like the 225 HO with all it's moving parts, does not require some sort of break-in, the bearings crank gears etc. must need some time to "seat-in" properly. I have some mechanical back ground and it just seems wrong to mash the throttle, hang on and go. Should I do some sort of break-in even if it is for the first hour or two??? Secondly, I was going to run XD100 from the start, just confirming that this is the best way to go.

    Thanks, Mark C.

I have about 2hrs on my 225HO, I babied it (less than 4000rpm) for the first hour...the second hour I got on her a little more, but still never went to WOT. Ran it up to 5100 one time. My dealer told me to drive it however I wanted from the get-go.

I also made sure mine was programmed to run XD100 from the start.

Go for it!!!! It's built to take it. You need to get used to the rig, test the prop, test the handling. Just run it!!!

Fill it up with the XD 100, climb in it and let her rip.

It seems weird to me to not break in a motor also but Evinrude has it worked out to where its not required somehow. It will use more oil for a few hours but that's the only thing that goes on during the so called break in. If I bought a new ETEC I'd do exactly what they say. Climb in it and let it eat. See what its made of right off the bat.

That Stratos will be a rocket with that on the back of it.

No need to baby it. This motor is designed to be run.

That is a great boat and motor!

I only got a 75, and was cringing from the get go. But like the mechanic told me if it breaks it's under warranty, drive it like you stole it as long as you don't over rev it. So far so good and I also used 100 oil from the start.

The nice thing about E-TEC is that no formal break in is required due to the cylinder honing finish. That means that you can do whatever you like when the motor is new..

If you want to keep the revs below WOT for the first hour, that's fine, and if you want WOT right out of the box, that's fine too. The choice is yours.

Do whatever you feel comfortable with. You will not be hassled by the "Break-in Police".

I'm on my second 225 H.O. I had one on the same boat you just bought (an '05 model). I liked it so much and believe in the technology so much, that I put one on my '06 Blazer (the first E-TEC powered Blazer to ever hit the water). On both boats, the first thing I did when I backed down into the water was nail the throttle. Both boat responded with amazing runs straight out of the box. Don't even think about babying these motors. They are designed for it. I fished tournaments out of both of these boats within two days of picking them up and if you think I babied them then, you are badly mistaken.

Well I guess that sums it up. Just seems different not to break something in, I like the way you put it Joe "Grip it and rip it" so thats what I'm going to do, let this baby fly. I will need some set time and test a few props to get it set up properly, I can wait for next week , woooohooooo. I'll post some pic's.

Thanks everyone for your time and advice,

    Mark C.
