I have a 1998 175 VMAX that is overfilling the reservoir. Once it is full to the top,
it will blead off the excess to the air box. I have an oil trail in the water and a smoken engine due to the additional oil in the air box. Has anybody had this happen? and if so was it the sensor in the rservoir or something with the big tank in the boat.
Try cleaning the sensor in the main oil tank (on the engine). If that doesn't work, it or the black box (or both) are bad. There's a way to test it with a multi-meter, but you'll need to get the correct values from a tech manual. By doing this, you'll know which is bad.
I am thinking it is the sensor. It is very spuradic. it doesnt stay on all the time. Its more like it doesn't always shut off when it is supposed to. I would think if it was the box it would be more consistant. I did clean it once, but it wasnt a permanaent fix. I just figured I would see if anybody else had run into this before I spent the money on the sending unit. Do you know a reasonable place to buy one of the sending units?
