I just got one of these motors on my 2004 Ranger 520. What do I have to do to give her a complete tune up? Should I run anything throught he gas in the Spring time to clean her up?

I would do a shock treatment with Seafoam just to make sure any carbon buildup is cleaned up. I would look at a used motor with the idea that the previous owner didn't take care of it. I would take it to a local shop and have them give it the one over, and do a 100hr maintenance. But be prepared to break out the wallet, someone recently posted is cost about $500 and some change. If you bought it from a dealer it should have had this before it left, consult with them about it.
Explain a shock treatment. I would imagine that it means more than what the regular dosage would reccomend. Should I change the plugs after that "shock treatment?" Im sure they will be quite dark. I also wanted to make sure I could run SeaFoam through that motor. I have used it on my carb outboards before, but I wasnt sure about the High presure ones. I know I need the fuel filters changed come spring. The dealer in my area already told me they were in need of it. Im checking with the dealer I bought it from first to make sure they didnt change them. Other than that what else would be part of the tune up?

I am in the office and do not have owners manual here. Again I would stick with what the manual says to do at 100hrs. You may or may not have 100hrs on it, but preventitive insurance is worth a lot of $$ in the long run. I think there is also the High pressure belt needs to be done as well, again I am no expert.
Seafoam is just fine to use. The bottle tells what the ratio is for a shock treatment. Do the shock treatment with the old plugs and replace immediately. New plugs made about a 3-4mph gain for me!
Sounds good to me. From what I hear from Ranger I am the third owner. So I would imagine that there are a few hours on her. Thanks for the help. Do you know what a 100hr maintenance includes? I have a good friend who is a merc tech and could probably do a lot of the things I need done. I would just have to do the part buying.
