    Fuel sender hookup & Trim

Don, I remember on one of our conversations on hooking up that fuel gauge sender an you mentioning removing a wire (that you could fry the computer if it was the wrong one) and installing the one on the harness. Can you please tell me how to hook this up??? I read the directons but want to double check.

Also, the trim on my Smartcraft is pegged at 25 (max)... I tried calibrating, not sure if I'm doing it right. I trim all the way down and hit save on the gauge, all the way up.. hit save again, and go to a trailering position and hit save one more time. Is this the correct way??

Re: Fuel sender hookup & Trim (Offshore 1)

When connecting the fuel/oil/paddle harness to the fuel tank, you should:

    1. REMOVE AND ISOLATE the existing PINK wire from the fuel sender.

    2. REPLACE this wire by connecting the PINK w/Black Stripe wire in the Smartcraft Fuel/Oil/Paddle Harness. Do not alter any other connections at the fuel sender. Don't remove any grounds- Don't ADD any other wires to the connection.

For your trim issue- start by VERIFYING the proper connection of the wires FROM THE TRIM SENDER. These wires should be color coded... and it's critical that the color coding be properly matched.

Also critical, is that the stainless "grounding strap" which attaches to the lower engine mount bolts be intact. If it's broken... it will interfere with the proper operation of SOME digital (or analog) trim senders.

When calibrating trim- you're calibrating three positions:

    DOWN
Trim (about 10, or the end of the twin trim rams "travel")
FULL UP (the highest safe TILT position you can tilt the engine to).

Please note: FULL UP needs to be reasonably high setting. Some people confuse "trailer position" with "full up" (they are not always the same).

OK.. forgot to update this... the ground cable was broken at one end. It is now grounded. The gauge at times flutters like it wants to work, other times stays at 0, and other times goes and stays at 25. The gas reading now shows on the SC1000 gauge.

    Replace the trim sender.
