It is important to know that you MUST have a 3'length of heavy chain attached to the anchor (then attach the rope to the chain). The chain keeps the anchor down so that you can drag it into whatever is going to secure you (it also helps knock it loose).
The mushroom and river styles will drift. They are (basically) designed to sink into a soft/muddy bottom (over time).
Get yourself a rubber coated Navy style anchor. Also if you want to use a chain you can. I have a 20lb Navy anchor and I used it with and without the chain. It worked great either way. I actually like it better without the chain so I don't scratch up my rub rail when I pull it up from the bottom.
If you want to spend some money on a good anchor get yourself a Digger Anchor. They pull up clean and you don't need a chain.

try an 18lbs. ricther anchor, they hold real good in most bottom types
