    E-Tech Questions

First time posting on this site. Hope i can get some good info from E-tech owners.

Ok i am fixing to pull the trigger on a E-tech 225 saltwater model but have a few questions.

    1. XD-100 and XD-50 oil is kind of expensive. Do the E-Techs gobble up oil like
my 1996 loop charged 200 does?

    2. The dealer i have been talking says that after Jan 1st BRP will be offering a 7yr
factory warranty. Sounds to good to be true but he has assured me that this is
a fact. Has anyone heard about this?????

    3. Any Spark plug issues from idleine for an excessive amount of time(slow
    trolling)?

I have been researching my engine of choice for several months and i have reached a conclusion that the E-Tech has the best bang for the buck and if the warranty is true most definetly the best factory warranty.

I would appreciate all inputs good or bad.

The price of outboards has skyrocked so homework is a must

    Thanks

You will use about 1/2 the fuel and 1/3 the oil compared to your old motor

    7 yr. warranty is true

From fishing guides and commercial users, plug life is not affected much by hours of trolling.

    Re: E-Tech Questions (SEAHORSE)

    Thanks for the reply.

Lots of my fellow fishing buds swear buy the Yam 4 stroker which i have ridden on many occasions and is very inpressive but with my application the extra weight is a show stopper and quite frankly everone has a Yam which cloggs up the servive dept. at the dealer. Trust me i know, i work in the marine industry and frequent lots of dealers, marinas, and boat yards.

I believe that the E-tech definetly for me.

Feel free pump me up on my decision.

    Thanks

7 year warranty at no extra cost? :) Sounds almost too good to be true !

Does anybody know if that deal is on for the US only or Canada as well?

    Re: E-Tech Questions (SKIP B)

The 7 years are available in the US and Canada on any Evinrude new unsold 03,04,05 or 06 model DI or E-Tec purchased from Dec 31 05 through March 31 06.

And you can choose the 7 years warranty or 4 dollars per Horse power credit or cash back.

99 and 44/100ths of the posts on here about the E-TECs people are really impressed! 4 strokes are good engines and even have their place in some peoples mind , but when ya have to change oil, tighten belts, adjust valves etc to a new motor at todays service prices, the E-TECs 3 yr 300 hr run it like ya stole policy really looks good! Re: E-Tech Questions (SKIP B)

I bought one of the first, if not the first, 225 Saltwater E-TECH's in Brevard County, FL. I currently have approx. 115 hours on it. I just got it back from the dealership for the current map upgrades, a tach r/r, EMM download, healthcheck and installation of a Racor filter instead of the BRP. While there the "Diverter Valve" was also fixed. The motor has performed flawlessly and I am happy with the purchase that I made. I have finally found a prop that is working with the magnum gearcase -- it's BRP's new Rebel prop. For all the DI and E-TEC motors after I believe 2002 with the magnum gearcase, you must have a prop with a lot of diameter and blade area or you will encounter excessive prop slip. Good luck on your engine - an E-TECH is the way to go

    Re: E-Tech Questions (Rocketman)

Keep in mind the first 3 years are BRP-factory warranty and the remaining 4 years are an extended protection plan from FPC.

    See: http://www.evinrude.com/en-US/...8.htm

for the details from BRP. You might also be interested in this:

Although the promotion says its non-declining, I recommend obtaining a copy of the current FPC agreement and reading the fine print. I do not know if this is the actual one - it says "sample" so it probably isn't?
