    Hot Temp Light

    Hey everyone.

I have an '08, 200 ETEC, (thanks to Championman, Garfish, Bassmeister and Rudetech!) After a long haul at wot, (I say wot, really about 5500rpm, not quite wot) my Hot Temp alarm has gone off. Twice. I'm getting good water pressure and the Tell Tale is spurting water at a steady stream. The water temp on the lake is pushing 95 - 97 degrees. I think that is the issue. Still though. I back off the gas and in nuetral it takes about 10 - 15 seconds and the alarm goes off (I mean turns off, no loud beep and light goes to normal state) and everything is normal and I'm at it again, usually with no more problems. I can deal with it, however, I don't want Steve to plug in and say WTF Sambone, you've overheated twice and there goes my warranty.

    What do you guys think?

Sam, did it go into SLOW? If it didn't then I would contact Steve and let him handle it. If it didn't you may have momentarily picked up some trash over the intakes...JMHO

the hot light and horn without the motor slowing down is a pre-overheat warning to alert the boat operator that the motor is on the edge of overheating.

Many times the problem is aerated water entering the gearcase inlet screens and that does not cool the motor completely. Look for any transducers, thru-hulls, or strakes in front of or within 14" of the gearcase centerline. Transducers with the speed wheels are the biggest offender.

A slightly worn water pump will do the same thing. If everything looks good, then replace the whole pump assembly and monitor your water pressures. They are listed by rpm on the http://www.etecownersgroup.com General Information section.

To the Hoss but just to add Sam if you don't feel comfortable have Steven check it out for you. There may be a MAP update out since the last time you've had it in.

It never went in to slow, I just backed off the throttle immediately. There is nothing on the outside of the hull, transducers or anything. The inlets are clear. But both times I was in a tight turn. Aeriated water was probably the culprit.

You can get higher volume water inlets for your motor that may help.
