    WANTED: ignition magneto coils for a Johnson TD20 (1946-49)

    Hi;
    I'm restoring for use an older vintage Johnson Outboard. It's a Model TD20 5 HP made between (1946-49). Serial #516591
    This belonged to my father and I want to see it being used as intended with me and my kids in a fishing boat. My dad enjoyed using it but it has since sat for many years unused. The motor is 100% complete. Turns over but no spark. Replaced the condensers and cleaned and checked the points. I want to replace the magneto coils. These coils are a OMC Part Number #375189. After I get it running I will repaint it the original color and install new Sea Horse decals. I hope someone out there can help me find some new coils or at least some good working used coils.
    Thanks.

    Those TD's and the later TN models were great fishing motors.

    You might want to look into the Antique Motor Club for tips, parts, etc. for your motor.

    http://www.aomci.org/

    Your TD-20 used a rotating magnet disk that fit inside the curved horseshoe shaped coil laminations. The disk would lose its magnetism over time and would have to be recharged on a machine. Make sure the magnets will firmly grab a screwdriver blade.

    the points hung downward from a blade spring and were opened and closed by a pushrod. Parts are no longer available but you can find older dealers and collectors that have what you need. Try contacting Barnacle Bill's in NJ for those parts.

    Set the side carb upper high speed adjustment to 1 to 1/2 turns and the front carb idle needle to about 1/2 to 5/8 turns to start.

    That motor used a 16:1 gas oil mix, 1/2 pint per gallon, but with todays oils, most run them 20:1 or even 24:1.

    Good luck and good memories with that motor.
