My 1996 150 Intruder is cutting out or loosing power (Water in gas?)

Last weekend I was running between 4000-5000 RPM's and it occasionaly it would just drop too about 3000. It stayed running but just no matter how much throttle I would give it it just ran weak. Then all of a sudden it would come to life and just take off back up to 4000-5000 RPM's and 45-55 MPH. It did this twice that weekend.

I got back to the dock and told some of the guys about what happened and they suggested it was probably my water seperator probably was full and needed to be changed. I didn't even know I had one is that the oil filter looking thing under the rear deck? And does this sound like a possible solution?

Also can I change this on the water? I am leaving tomorow night again so if I could pick up one on my way to the lake I could change it at the ramp or wherever.

Sounds more like an ignition problem, power pack, EET.

    I concur.

Usually a big rpm drop like that means you are losing a cylinder.

It hasn't done it in the last 2 trips out but how much is a power pack and what other components should I replace at the same time?

Its still seems to be leaking gas around those plastic fittings. So I am sure those O-rings are shot

That ain't a good sign, and should have already been fixed!!! Fix that then repost.

Now you have leaking O rings? Where are they leaking from? The fuel rails the balance tubes? The VST?

And yes you can change your water separator easily, just like an oil filter. Just dispose of it properly.
