    Brush piles

Can't remember if this topic has been on the boards or not so here goes; Is it legal here in fl. to set out brushpiles on public lakes? I know many people that do and don't see a problem with it, just want to know if it's legal? If so then what is the best materials to use? and how long before you have seen results?

I guess I could look at it that way, but the only real secret is where it's at

I spoke with a Fla. Game Officer about this subject 3 years ago at a Fl. Sportsmans Show at the Orlando Fairgrounds. I am not sure if his answer is still good or not. The GFC told me it was not legal to place brush piles in publc waters due State Environmental Reg's without a valid permit from them. He also stated man made brush piles create hazardous on lakes and rivers during low water conditions and when some of the brush breaks away and surfaces. He said only the state can legally place brush piles as fish attractors as they are marked properly to prevent accident or injury to others. I mentioned that many of the markers that were set in place by the GFC have been cut and removed by fisherman to keep others from finding them. He said he admits that happens and if they are caught or someone can provide information as to who was removing the markers, they will be arrested. You may want to check EPA laws. I know of 2 people that have been cited by local marine officers in the past 20 years for dumping illegal brush piles in lakes. One was a water front home owner who placed oak tree limbs in front of his dock without a permit. Both were fined and required to perform public service work for 80 hours.

If you can be covert about having half a tree in your boat and dropping it out in the lake, go for it! just launch in the dark

Seriously I know folks who have and have gotten away with it but u just have to ask yourself if it's worth it
