    New to Mobile area.

Anywhere nearby to fish freshwater? Worried about putting boat & trailer in salty/brackish water. Thanks. - Jimmy

Re: New to Mobile area. (old ball coach)

There's freshwater all around Mobile. Where at in Mobile are you? I'm not familiar with freshwater fishing in the southern part of the county, there are a few launches further up Hwy 43 in Saraland (Bayou Sara), Chickasaw (Chickasabogue), Satsuma (Steel Creek). All of these give quick access to the Mobile River Delta. There are also some further north in Mt Vernon and McIntosh, but I am hesitant about using those due to the vehicle break-ins that occur at those launches. You could also fish Big Creek Lake (which is the water supply lake for the city of Mobile). The launch for BCL is at the end of Howells Ferry Road. I've been fishing out there more and more and enjoy it better than I do the local creeks (Bayou Sara and Gunnison).

And don't let the "freshwater fishing" fool you. Later in the summer, when we haven't had rain for a few weeks, the saltwater starts backing up into the rivers and creeks around here, and turns them more into "brackish" water. You never know what you'll catch...you may catch a bass on one cast, then pull in a redfish on the next one. Just be sure you rinse everything off really good when you're finished fishing and you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

Thank Scott, I am in Spring Hill area. Moved down here from Auburn. I appreciate the advice. I don't know thing about this area fishing wise. Maybe you can coach me up on where to go. Thanks - Jimmy Perry

Sure thing...I work swing shift so I am off every other weekend with some weekdays off in-between (whatever days I work one week, I am off the next week). Let me know when a good time for you would be and I'd be glad to show you around.

You dont own an older red and white stratos do you....

I will be glad to help ya out and show you around. I have ran the delta for over 15 years now and I practiacally live on it now... As far as the salt the whole delta basically has somewhat of a salt content in it... Just be sure you hose it off when you get home and when I pull my boat out I trim my motor all the way til the skeg hits the ground and let it drain just so I dont have saltwater sitting in there....
