    Johnson RPM

I have a 1998 Johnson 200 Venom on A Cobra Bass Boat. I am running a 24 pitch Raker prop And it will GPS at 64.5mph with tackle 3/4 tank of fuel and me by myself the motor is turning right at 5900 RPM and I was wandering if that is about right or not

That might be all you'll get out of it Andy. I'm sure you could squeeze maybe a couple mph with prop modifications and jp height tweeks but I never thought it was worth the $$$.

I think you need to work on setup. If you are spinning the rake 5900, you should be running a little faster.

    Re: Johnson RPM (Lockjaw)

according to your numbers your slip factor is way up,rpms compared to speed.
those boats are pretty flat running i think so you may be trimming too high, does it throw a tall rooster tail. The raker is a bow lifting prop, you may be better with a 25 renegade, check engine height, check some of the other boards to see if you can find one like yours to see the set up..yo should get high 60's maybe 70.
5800 rpm is bout all i'd go,i turned one 6100 and it only lasted 2 years before it blew and the mech. said it was from overreving.the stock pistons break from waht he said.

    Re: Johnson RPM (arh)

I run a 25" Renegade on my 1997 Rude Vindicator. The engine sits on a 97 Ranger 391, 19'3" boat with a 10" manual jackplate. Loaded, I run 5600-5700 rpms and GPS right @ 64.5 mph. My water pressure is over 28 psi so I could probably raise the engine some more but I'm pretty happy with the way it's set up now.

I'll have to see how many rpms I lose in the summer as I may have to drop down to a 24" prop.
