    Help launching alone please

Went to Beeswax to see what the launch looked like. What is the best way to launch a boat by yourself, when there is nowhere to tie off boat? I usually leave boat tied on to trailer ease into water, hop in boat , tie off boat, and park truck. The problem is, I cant tie off the boat...

Hey big guy, I'm not too familiar with Beeswax, been by there a few times. Is the water level so low that the dock is not useable. I launched today by myself at Lake Harding but the lake level is normal and did basically what you do with no problems.

If you run into this problem often, look into a Hamby's. Just drive it right up on the ramp beside your trailer. Keel shield would be a less expensive option.

I actually have a Keelshield certificate that they were nice enough to donate for the last Southern Rally. I was waiting to see if I got a bigger boat before I used it. Im going to go ahead and put her on. Thanks for the advice everyone. And thanks again to Keelshield for being nice enough to donate the door prize.

I launched at Beeswax Sat. with no problem. The one pier to the right is still usable. It has skinny water on the end of it, but I was able to tie off and climb up to the dock. I might have looked like a fat monkey screwing a football but it worked and I didn't trear anything up.

    Launching alone

I fish alone abut 95% of the time. I have come up with a system for launching my TR-20 that works great for me, and so far I have never had to chase the boat! BTW – it’s best of you have a good keel protector on your boat. I have an original Hamby’s Beaching Bumper on my TR-20. IMHO, a Hamby’s is like an American Express card – don’t leave home without it.

You will need a 25-foot docking rope with a loop in one end and a steel snap hook. Both are available at any boat dealer, BPS, or Cabela's. These items will make your launching rope. Run the non-looped end of the rope through the snap hook and then tie an overhand knot. If you’re paranoid, you can tie a bowline, but the overhand knot has never failed me yet.

    Now prepare to launch.

    1) PUT IN THE PLUG!
    2) Unhook transom tie-downs.
    3) Loosen the winch strap a couple of feet and RE-ENGAGE the winch. Don’t ask how I know this is important!
    4) Attach the winch strap hook onto the looped end of the docking rope.
    5) Attach the Snap Hook to the bow eye.
    6) Coil the excess rope out of the way – I lay mine on top of the spare tire
    7) Back boat in and let it float off the trailer. It helps to hit the brakes pretty hard just as the boat floats to give the boat a little inertia to float clear of the trailer.
    8) When the boat has floated clear of the trailer, slowly pull forward, pulling the boat up onto the ramp just enough to keep it from floating away.
    9) Back up about a foot, then get out and detach the launching rope from the winch strap and the boat.
    10) Park your truck & trailer.
    11) Get in the boat, put on your PFD, and you’re ready for a day on the lake.

    Good Luck - Doc

There was an article in the Jemison newspaper this morning about some pervert trying to "mate" with a pier on Lay Lake this weekend......it didn't say what landing but that investigators were attempting to identify the culprit from photos taken by a nearby resident...............
