    Ignition Wire?????

    Installing a stereo. Instructions are clear...
    Red Positive, Black Ground, Yellow to ignition.

    What color, or where can I hook up the yellow wire to the ignition??
    I can see the wiring harness that hooks up to the key. Is there any other
    place I can hook it up??

    They said yellow to ignition for it to act like your truck stereo. Meaning you will have to have the key turned to the on position in order for your radio to come on. So if you can remember to turn off the radio when your done listening to it then you can just tie the yellow and red together.

    Red= positive power which keeps the memory in the radio
    black= negative
    yellow= ignition which has to be on in order for your radio to come on

    You can ask Don Weed but I think he will tell you that it isn't a good idea to have the key on for extended periods of time without the motor running.

    That is excactly what I wanted to know. I want to put the red & yellow together as I would not want the key on W/O the motor running. THANKS.

    You can also put the yellow wire on an accessory power switch so that the switch on the dash will act like the ignition switch

    That way when you shut your boat down the radio will be off and not hot as it will be with the red and yellow wires connected to a hot source
