Temperature Gauge wire is cut, Location to reconnect?

I recently bought a 1998 Triton TR19 with a Evinrude Intruder 175, model E175GLECD. The temperature gauge on the switch panel, Nu-Temp brand, has two small wires in a white housing running to the back of the boat. These wires are disconnected and laying in the bottom of the boat. Where do they connect? Are these the wires that should to be connected to a sender? Should I be looking for a sender on the motor block? The temperature gauge comes on when the power to the boat is turned on, but doesn't register anything, which makes sence because the wires are not connected to anything. Any help would be appreciated.

There would have to be a thermister somewhere on the stern outside of the boat. I don't think that company is in business anymore and if the wires are cut it is probably useless other than to light up.
I'm wrong about the being in business thing...

Thanks fastr. This is the temperature gauge in my boat. The white wires shown in the picture that are rolled up look just like the wire that runs to the back of my boat. This is the wire that is cut. If the long cyindrical sender in the picture is the same one that was suppose to be hooked up to the gauge in my boat, I don't see how that sender could be attached to the motor. There are no threads on the sender in that picture. Maybe it came with a different sender. There are two threaded holes on the back of my motor (one on each side between the top two cylinders). After reading a bunch of threads about hooking up a temp gauge, I tought these two threaded holes are were the temp sender was suppose to be. Am I thinking right? If so, where does the original gauge go to?

The sender wouldn't be attached to the motor. It's to indicate the water temperature and would be attached to the transom of the boat or possibly the owner didn't use it that way and just lowered it in the water to obtain the reading.

It does look like its designed to lower into deep water, maybe to mark the thermocline ?? Theres a lot of cable there.

There's about 10 feet of wire left. I looked around the livewell as best I could thinking it might be connected to it somewhere, but I couldn't find a sender or signs of where one use to be. I guess I'll pull that gauge out and install a motor temperature gauge. Thanks for the help.
