    Tracker warranty

I think I am going to kick my 90 off this fall and thanks to Don Weed I have decided on getting the 125 Opti .

Now my question is do I start with a BOB's 5 inch JP with the 6 wedge or should I go to a 8 ? Am I pushing it by adding a bigger motor and or a JP? The Boat is a 2006 PT190 basstracker .

The back of the boat looks solid but the front now has a few small cracks because I was a dummy and went on lake Ontario Saturday I didn't think it was all that bad maybe 3 footers but according to the news they were 5 foot rollers with a nice bit of chop so I may have over extended my air miles with this boat.

I will be dropping it off at the welding shop tomorrow morning to get touched up

Most weld shops won't even touch one UNTIL all of the foam is removed from that area inside the hull. Been there and still delaing with it.
All I can say at this point is, "Good Luck with that" and welcome to the club.

    Re: Re power PT190 (Stumps)

What he said. You have to be careful welding from the outside as the heat will melt the sprayed in foam and cause problems. To be done right it has to be done from both sides.

In regards to the repower. Why the 125 over a 115 XS? Price? Not sure on the JP...I know the MJ5 works well on the 190. Bigger question is going to be the prop. Maybe a 24 or 25 trophy.

It has a 90 on it with stress cracks and you want to add a jp and 125 . I think if my boat was cracking I wouldn't go more. But to each his own.

    Re: Re power PT190 (croix-man)

sure ! got to live life on the edge , other wise I'd be sitting home knitting watching life go by besides I really don't think the cracks are going to be a issue with the HP .

Mapdash I do not know what the difference between the opti and the opti XS, I also figured the 125 has a better gear ratio don't know about price yet find out Saturday .

as far as the weld goes I was kinda hoping for a alternative to pulling it all a part but as you guys pointed out it is not going to happen . So I guess I am off to BPS and see if Tracker will cover it under warranty and who will weld it , If it is going to Grumpy's or to PK van body's I am ok with them welding it.

    Re: Re power PT190 (Stumps)

the XS has porting done to it and has a better low and midrange tourqe...I would go with the 115XS over the 125 but if you have money to blow might as well max out the HP and put the 135 on it

    Re: Re power PT190 (jimfc3)

Thanks ! kid at BPS had said that Merc was coming out with a 125 XS I was really thinking about putting on the 135 but it is a added 56 Lbs and a bunch more for maintenance being its 3 more cyl .

As far as money goes I don't have a lot I was just thinking to up it for a little better performance and added reliability (because I would get the extended warranty this time ) so I would have 5 years trouble free with the motor .

Also I paid $14 G for my 90 the 135 is going for $13G's!!!!!!!! when I bought it I really wanted to max it just couldn't justify the added price since I was already at almost $30 for the damn boat .

    Re: Re power PT190 (teeboy)

BPS phoned today told me it was from "hard loading" and said they can't do anything there I have to take it to the warranty shop and then phone Tracker I thought this to be odd but what ever I'll do what I'm told and hope the the best . He also mentioned that it has a 5 year warranty that I am over by 2 months .

funny thing is I've never loaded it on the trailer from WOT , I always Idle up and once I'm on give it a nudge then crank it up the rest of the way .

teeboy how tough is it to pull the deck off ?

    Re: Re power PT190 (Stumps)

Not fun at all. Don't know about the 190 but, the 185 has a screwed on front deck.
If yours is towards the rear...it could be a royal PITA! The rear decks are welded on and there are some areas I have no idea how you would get to them. Lucky for me one of my cracks was under the drivers seat between the bunk and there is a plate of aluminum for the floor under the seat storage...I removed that and the seating and was able to remove the foam to get to it. About two days worth of work. I replaced the floor with marine plywood.
I'm still getting about a half gallon of water and can't seam to find where it's coming from.
I'm getting rid of this POS next spring!
Their aluminum must be coming from CHINA!

HAhaha yea probably is I know a lot of metal is coming from China .
Thanks for your input , yea I'm not sure how different the 185 and 190 are but it is the front. hopefully they cover it under warranty if not I will be indulging in customizing my boat .

    Re: Re power PT190 (croix-man)

OK after reassessing I have to concur with you croix-man. Tracker @ BPS doesn't do warranty so after them having it for the week I picked it up today and tore her apart to find all the stringer weld to be cracked .

I don't think I will be fixing this my self after all, I think am calling Tracker and see what they want to do .
this is directly above the crack

    this is the crack

Wow! Sorry to see that! It seems this is getting to be a common problem with Tracker.

    Re: Re power PT190 (Stumps)

Where is the crack in relationship to the bow? Taking the front deck off isn't that hard. Done it several times on mine.

    Re: Re power PT190 (Popeye)

That is under the front deck! there is not much left on the boat right now .

and under the dry storage I find the pegs from the rivets embedded in the carpet

    Re: Re power PT190 (Stumps)

Well since you have it apart...I would like you to tell everyone how your "internal" welds look. I'll bet you money if they are anything like the ones I've seen...a blind monkey could weld better!
Wonder if this is why the only cover internal welds for one year (contract)...although they will go 5 years I've heard.
I've yet to see one with external weld problems.
BTW...when they say your boat is made from .100 aluminum...that's hull only. Check the gauge of your stringers and support pieces.
