Let me know. It was worked by Billy quite a bit to get it to be pretty loose with very little cup

whats the diffence between Perfomer 4 and 28" Merc Pro ET??? i tired to run the Merc Pro Et on my new motor and it was a pig coming out of the hole. currently running a 30" Bravo 1xs, but will have to be tuned to run better.

    cheers,

Depends on the "cut" but I'm pretty sure that if the Merc Pro ET was a pig at less than 15" in diameter any style Performer 4 @ 15" in diameter given the same pitch will be worse

    Re: All this talk.... (esdbass)

just bought a new 300xs with 1.62 gear. problem now is like any new motor, finding a great all round prop.

yes it drives very different from the 280, motor sits a little lower, coming off plan the back deck gets a nice tidal wave (i have learned that i need to feather it just before coming completely off the throttle). motor seems to have a natural bow lift, where the 280 needed help, which is where i added cup to all my props to assist in this.

as of now, in the break in mode, i am limited to 5400 rpm's and i know if this hurt the Merc Pro ET, once the complete break in is complete i will rerun the Pro ET to see if the extra 1000 rpm's available helps.

driving seems to be very light, meaning not as much torque on the steering, very hard to get use to. very little steers means a lot of boat movement and had me at white knuckling (no pun intended) at one point. have gotten better, just need a lot more hours on the new set up.

    Re: All this talk.... (280ssStroker)

Ken: All I got to say is that "IF" you have remotely the right set up and that 300XS is @ 100% that 28" Pro ET is going to break your neck coming out of the hole

Shoot me a PM if you want, that 3.2 motor has SO MUCH torque it's stupid so I'm scratching my head wondering why you thought the 28" was bad coming out of the hole????????

You got me wanting to get rid of my 280 and get a 3.2. Let us know how it runs after you get it broke in.

I will let you know. It's a 2005 short shaft virgin motor. Never been rebuilt. Just entertaining the idea of putting something else on it.

    Re: All this talk.... (esdbass)

Eli, the hole shot had a lot of bog, meaning that it (motor) just didn't free up (rev's), i still think that it is because, the motor is still in break in mode. to make your head scratch even more, the boat was not even loaded, except a full tank of gas and oil. like i mentioned earlier, the prop was worked (balanced and a little cup added) to help the 280, but i fell that should not have made it a pig out of the hole. once i get back from business travel, i will be knocking out the other 3:15 hours left on break in and will update all. as for the bravo 1xs, is was not bad out of the hole at all considering it was straight from mercury, no work on it yet.

thanks for all the advise, it helps a lot. !!

    ken
