I'm a would-be/hopeful first time bass boat owner and this Friday I'll be going to look at (and possibly buy) this boat. It's very clean and I'm hopeful that the test ride goes well, along with the appraisal I'm having done afterward at the marine mechanic's shop.
Sorry, but I don't have the serial number yet. I do know that it's a 1995 Evinrude 150hp Intruder.
When the mechanic is giving it his attention, what should I make sure he checks out on it? I have some ideas... compression test, check for 'milky' oil in lower unit. If the owner can't give me an accurate 'hours on motor' count (not sure that there's a gauge for it), should the mechanic be able to determine? What other items should a competent marine mechanic scrutinize to make sure I don't get stuck with a lemon, even if my on-the-water/on-the-ramp tests go well? Thanks!
