Need Help with a 1990 Johnson 150 GT

    Guys,
I need some advise. I dont have the serial or model number right now, but I will get it in a day or two. Me, my son and dad took the boat to the lake to see if the new stator I put on fixed out problem. We got in the water and tried to get on plane, but the boat would run up to about 3000 rpm and start hesitating realy bad. I could stop, raise the motor almost out of the water rev it up a little, let it idle, and it would die. I could lower the motor back in the water start it up and it would get up on plane. We could run around around for a while, stop and fish, then try to go again and it would not get up on plane, it would do the same thing. I could raise it up again rev it up a little let it die and lower it again and it would work. Before I put the stator on it, it would only rev up to 3000 rpm no mater what I did. Anyone got any suggestions. I would love to get this thing working better so I can take my 4 year old fishing.

    Thanks

It sounds like you may have some sort of fuel problem. When's the last time the carburetors were rebuilt? I would try new needles and seats and gaskets on it.
Burning the candle at both ends.

Replace the power pack you are only runnning on 3 cylinders. If you trim the prop out of the water you remove the back pressure of the water and it will rev up. . Those T packs were good for that.

I had the carbs rebuilt last year, and then the local dealer put on a new power pack last fall. If I was running on 3 cylinders cylinders would I be able to get up on plane and run 5800 rpm? Could it be something with my spark advance. Once I get it to where it will rev up it will run like a top. Any advise will be greatly appreciated.

No where in your post did you say anything about it ever getting up to 5800 RPM from your post the most you've gotten out of it was 3,000.

Sorry, I guess that was pretty important, I am sorta new at this. The boat would run fine, get up to 5800 rpm, once I would raise the motor up and let it die. I could start it up and it would idle up good and I could get on plane and run like it should, 5800 rpm. I just dont know what would make it somethimes start hesitating, and only rev up to 3000 rpm. I have had the carbs rebuilt last fall, new power pack last fall, and a new stator this winter. Is there anything else that would be causing this mechanically or do I have a fuel problem? Once again sorry for the confusion about the rpm.
