    2003 stratos 201 pro xl with ox66 250 yamaha

is it just me or i am dreaming about this boat running between 75 and 80mph. boat runs 72-72.5 with me alone. running a 6 in slidemaster jackplate and a 27p yamaha vmax prop at 5500 wot. i thought this boat was going to be faster than it is. or am i wishing for more that isn't there? don't have the pad measurement yet but when i tried to raise the jackplate it got all kind of squirrelly. so i put it back where it was. boat has plenty of bow lift and not too bad holeshot.

That boat is an easy 75 loaded and 77-78 with just you. I run the same boat.motor and have no problem getting those numbers with a very heavily loaded boat. You need more setback ( get at least an 8" plate or just add 2" spacers to what you have now) and you need to get the motor set about 3" below. May be a little lower or higher depending on your load, but somewhere around 3" will be close.

It will walk at those speeds and if you have never learned to drive with chine walk, then you need to get with someone that can drive it and have them go out and show you how to drive it. Then some seat time will make it second nature to drive and not even notice the chine. You will learn to control it before it gets going.

also shouldn't my outboard be turning closer to 6000 rpm? has very little chinewalk now at speed. just trying to get more speed out of it. i know some with 225 hp that run faster than mine!!!!

Sounds like you are way too low. Need to raise it up. It was starting to walk when you tried to raise it, because it was starting to get up on pad.

I have a 2004 201 w/the same jackplate and motor, and can barely get 72 by myself at 5800. Mine also starts walking at WOT trimmed up.

I have an 03 with 8 inch hyd jackplate and the best I have seen was 74 myself and a moderate load

I'm not experienced with the ox66 motors, but I've been in several 201's with 250 HPDIs that would run 75 mph with two people. In extreme heat that number might be 73 mph. More setback would probably help you. 8" is ideal, some folks say 10" is better but you might give up hole shot. Most of the time the prop shaft should be 2-1/2 to 3-1/2 below the pad on these hulls. You say it gets squirlly, Bring the jack up just enough that you can get used to it getting loose(squirlly). Get some seat time there, then bring it up 1/4" at a time. When you get used to driving it, come up with the jack until you notice a speed loss and and drop it back down 1/2 inch. You'll get there.
