My 2001 Evinrude 150, new post better info with help of tech.
Prior to the EMM Failing with codes 81,82,83,84,85,86, we noticed fuel behind the engine. The engine ran 2 more short trips.
Failure of the components happened when the lower thermostat housing (under cylinder #6) corroded spraying salt water on the lower coil creating a arc between the coil wire and spark plug wire. The both rubber insulating boots on the coil failed.
The emm failed with codes 81,82,83,84,85,86, compression checked before repairs started. #6 lowest just below 100 Psi, remaining cylinders 103 to 105 Psi.
297 hours on engine
Repairs completed.
Started engine yesterday with a DFI rebuilt emm, a new thermostat housing, fuel filter, hoses, a new dual coil and a new plug wire.
Engine runs , holds idle and throttles up.
#6 cylinder is not firing, installed a new gapped and indexed plug, zero spark, timing light verified no electrical pulse.
Coil wire back to the emm duetch connector ohm tested fine.
#4 is firing so the dual coil ground is OK. Plug wires, coil wires swapped between #4 and #6. Still no spark.
Installed another dual coil,(ohmed same as the new one installed) same result, no spark #6 cylinder.
The tech is currently performing the dva test as Seahorse outlined. Says fuel system OK, no spark = unburned fuel that blows out thru the exhaust.
He wants to change out the Stator, saying each spark plug coil fires off the 12 volt impulse delivered by the stator yet regulated via the emm and TPS sensor.
He showed me the yellow/green, yellow/blue, yellow/purple wires on the stator are relative to the orange/green, orange/blue, orange/pirple wires exiting the emm.
oh boy, this just keeps adding up.
