Water in transom 1992 Javelin 389

Oh boy.....I'm re-powering sometime in the next week or two. In the process of prepping my transom I removed a few screws that were from an old fish finder. Well wouldn't you know water came out of the holes. It's on the console side of the boat, under the overhang. The motor mounts are solid. I show no signs of cracks and my old motor was solid, did not move. Any thoughts out there? Do I need a full transom replacement? I stuck a nail in the hole, it goes in about 1 inch then it hits something solid. Is there an easy fix? I would like to get it resolved before I put my motor on.

I took my boat to someone who does fiberglass repairs for a living. He told me I was all set! All I need to do is dry out the holes and use some marine tex and seal them up....now I can sleep at night!

Also heard people putting a hot lamp near the holes to help dry it out first ?

I did this. The only time I see a little water is when I keep the heat lamp on it for a few hours. Once it cools down the holes dry up.

I spoke to marine tex and they said the product will dry with damp holes. I'm going to seal them up and go.

I'll keep a close eye on my transom but I think where the water penetrated I'm safe. The main part of the transom is dry as a bone
