Here are all the details on the new Mercury Racing engines. Very cool bracket design and solid mounts, has a lot going for them. They are really big though.

Looks good. What's the advantage of a V8 with 250 hp? Against a V6 with 250 hp.

Aren't these V8s the same weight (or even a little lighter) than the V6s? That seems to be what makes this all such a big deal. Even the 300 is slightly lighter than the listed weight of my 175 2-stroke V6, though mine is also more than old enough to drink.

there is nothing special about a v8 with 250 hp... GM just revealed a 4 banger with 298 hp and 350 tq... what would be really special is if they introduced a 250 v8 with 800 ft lbs of torque to beat the g2's 680ish... but they don't release torque figures...
Nice shot of the new forged bracket and lower mounts. We updated some pricing in the article for the ProXS versions, not the R versions. I am still thinking the lighter V6 225 is the best bang for the buck, and if you added solid lower mounts, would be the winner, if you didn't need 300 HP. Otherwise the 300R is pretty amazing.

Any idea the cost of the 300r compared to the 300 opti?
