    I have big probs help??????

I recently bought a 96 champion with a 175 eveinrude fastrike. One day the boat ran perfect but a lil hard to start never nocked or anything . The next day i was going back to the lake and it wouldnt start for anything . The first guy i took it to said i needed a new power head and a lower unit and gave me an estimate of 6900 . hes nuts. The next guy i took it to said there was no way i needed a power head if it didint act funny or anything and this is coming from a 72 year old man that has worked on motors for a liveing his whole life . He put it on some kind of a machine and it showed it wasnt getting enough spark . cuz a motor just done blow over nite .but it does have a small crack the size of a hair and maybe half an inch long but it doesnt leak . its on the right side of the motor on the top corner . He said this should matter . the boat has ran fine for a year with it . Maybe something come loose in there down the line and cracked it but it has been fixed . What do u guys think is wrong ? I have tried to explain my probs the best i could

everything but reading rule 1 on the top of the board. Calm down and re-read your post and then correct it, your post doesn't make sense.

Even though you took it to a guy that has worked on them a lifetime, is he a certified OMC/ BRP master mechanic? Sounds like you came away not knowing what is really wrong. I do believe any mechanic certified or not who gets a complaint that the motor won't start and DOES NOT do a compression check, is doing you a terrible disservice. This is just one of the very first things that a real mechanic does. I'd highly suggest you seek out a certified mechanic at as close a dealership as I could and let him go over your complaints. That's the best advice I can give you................G

yes the first guy was certified . the first guy is saying that it needs a powerhead. And yes the guy that has it now is certified and he has alot more experience so im hoping he is right and it doesnt need the power head

How does not starting lead to a bad lower unit? Not that I'm an expert, just seems like the old muffler bearing thing to me.

Only if they used a left handed adjustable to check it.
