98 Stratos Hull Material shoot thru ducer

I'm getting ready to install my hds 7 and am putting a shoot through ducer in the back. My question is, does anyone know if the hull in the transom area is sold fiberglass or does it have an inner and outter hull with foam? Lowrance states to cut through the inner and foam to the outter if there are two seperate layers.

Re: 98 Stratos Hull Material shoot thru ducer (TwinStick)

I just installed a shoot thru and tried to get the same info before the install. I think the best thing is to contact the dealer and see if they can give u the answer u r looking for. On mine I decided not to cut into my hull and chose a spot that was as far back and close to level as possible. I figured the worst that could happen is I had to tear it up and start over. So far I have had it ouat twice and am very happy. Good luck with ur install

The area in the back is solid, go ahead and install. To test, you can build a circular "dam" with plumbers putty, fill with water, put the ducer in the water and weight with a sock full of sand. Put the boat in the water and see if you get a good reading in the mounting spot you chose

There should be an area in the bilge that is designated for transducers. Looking over the transom, down into the bilge, its typically located 10-12" forward of the drain plug and 6-8" to the left of the centerline. The overlap of the hull materials at the keel is 4-6" on both sides. This makes the overlapped area to thick for good transducer penetration. The 10-12" should put you in front of your pumps and will give you the room you'll need.

It should have a transducer already there from the factory install...Put it in the same area...It works well from about any area where the bilge pumps are...
