1990 Stratos 285 Pro Pooling Water on Floor near Driver Side. . . why?

We gave our old bass boat, a Stratos 285 Pro, to our son-in-law.

Yesterday he was running the boat on Lake of the Ozarks, where it is plenty rough on a summer weekend, and he got water inside the boat. It has freaked him out.

Any ideas on what is going on? The bilge was working, according to him.

Any help would be much appreciated before he hauls it to a repair shop to have them start searching for solutions.

    Thank you.

    First question... How much water?

Could be any of the following.......

Loose or dry-rotted hose to speedometer or water pressure guage.

Leaking Livewell or aerator pump hose.

    Leaking around drain plug.

Operator inexperience in bringing boat off plane causing wash to come over transom.

    Rain.. (just kidding)

I'd check these before taking off to shop. Good Luck.

I have the same boat and sometimes find water in my boat as well when it is really rough. I get water spots near the sides of the seats and below consoles. I believe it is from water that splashes up onto the deck, compartments, consoles, and it drains over to the side and works its way back. If you look at the boat you will know what i'm talking about.

Had the same problem with my '06 201 ProXL. Drove me crazy for almost 2 years. Get water in the boat and the bilge would run. Only time we got water in the boat was when it was moving, never just sitting in the water. Finally with nothing in the boat we went for a ride with my bud looking in the rear compartment. Mashed the throttle down and water started pissing, no, gushing in! Up on plane it stopped. Come off plane it it started gushing in again. Back on the trailer and we look under the rub rail and there is a 1/2" gap about 2' long on the port side rear, where the top cap meets the hull. Pulled the plastic piece from the center of the rub rail to discover that the screws had backed out in that particular area and that probably half of all the screws were loose. Removed all the screws and cleaned the area up. Put the white 3M product on each screw and tightened them all down. Put rub rail back and put 3M stuff on all those screws.

    Problem solved! No more leaks!
