    Javelin Threaded Drain Plug?

My son and I recently acquired a '94 Javelin 379T bass boat. The seller told us he had "broken" the main drain plug. I didn't think it was a big deal at the time, but now I'm getting worried. Can anybody here point me to a source for a replacement threaded drain plug for the Javelin? The only threaded plugs I can find are referred to as "garbard" fittings. They are brass, instead of plastic (nylon) as the seller referred to it. These garbards look like sailboat things to me. But, is this what I need? I have found a 3/4 inch brass garbard plug at iboats.com and a 1 inch brass garbard plug at BassPro. I don't know what I need as I am away from the boat and did not measure before I left it Sunday.
I will appreciate any insights that Javelin folks can provide.
    Thanks very much.

    Here ya go http://www.basspro.com/webapp/...sults

May have to change the fitting. Some of the threads are a little different so try just the plug part in it first. That ain't no thing though. Just unscrew the old fitting and clean the old sealant off. Be sure to silicon the new one up real good with some 3M 4200.

I think that's where the last owner went wrong. He "broke" the plug trying to get it out. 4200 allows for disassembly. (Occasional removing of the plug.)

Check with C & O Marine they may have the original part on hand. They have tons of Javelin stuff.

just change it or have it changed to the brass garbard. I had my 97 javelin 400tdc up @ c and o last year having some work done and had them go ahead and change to the brass garbard. I haven't had a single issue out of it yet and the brass gives u a warm feeling inside knowing its not some shitty plastic piece keeping your boat from drowning!

HUH?? I had rather have the plastic one it is alot easier to use and never have to worry about losing it. Mine has been there since 1994 and never had a problem with it plus if you forget to put the plug in the pressure of the water will push it up against the hole so less water gets in.

yeah and if you just take the time to wrench it one good time you will never have to worry about that thing ever coming out. and I seriously doubt the pressure from water will push it back into the hole to seal it enough to even talk about. first off, pressure from what? When is the water ever pushing at the back of your boat enough to do that? I had a crack in an aereator pump the size of my thumb nail and it would be up to my batteries in 10 min. if my bilge didn't kick on. I guess to each his own.

just remember to do your shit.

yeah and if you just take the time to wrench it one good time you will never have to worry about that thing ever coming out. First off you do not wrench it down that is why it has a thumb wing!

and I seriously doubt the pressure from water will push it back into the hole to seal it enough to even talk about. I seriously know it will, I have seen a friend fish a full day in a tournament that forgot to screw his in, he realized it before blast off and said the pumps did not kick in but a few times all day!

first off, pressure from what? The weight of surrounding water that is above the drain plug, simple physics!

When is the water ever pushing at the back of your boat enough to do that? Anytime the boat is sitting still!

I had a crack in an aereator pump the size of my thumb nail and it would be up to my batteries in 10 min. if my bilge didn't kick on. You have answered your own questions above, if no pressure this would not happen!

I guess to each his own. Yeah I guess so!

just remember to do your shit. Mine is done!

DO YOU KNOW WHAT A BRASS GARBOARD DRAIN PLUG IS? APPARENTLY NOT.
LOOK I DIDN'T GET ON HERE TO ARGUE W/ YOU. i JUST REPLIED W/ A SUGGESTION THAT MIGHT HELP OUT A FELLOW MEMBER HERE.
AND i UNDERSTAND THERE IS PRESSURE THERE, BUT i DON'T BELIEVE IT IS ENOUGH TO PUSH THE PLUG BACK IN AND SEAL IT ENOUGH FOR IT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE. i HAVE A FRIEND W/ A CENTER CONSOLE WHO LOST HIS PLUG ALL TOGETHER. WE HAD 4 PEOPLE ON THE BOAT AND WE HARDLY TOOK ON ANY WATER AT ALL. iN FACT WE FISHED FOR ANOTHER 2 HOURS BEFORE PICKING ONE UP AT THE MARINA. i THINK IT DEPENDS ON THE BOUANCY OF THE VESSEL AND THE DIFFERENT LAYOUTS OF THE HULLS THAT MIGHT CAUSE DIFFERENCES IN WATER INTAKE W/OUT A PLUG SECURED.

AND HERES A PICTURE OF THE BRASS GARBOARD DRAIN PLUG THAT YOU DON'T WRENCH!

I am not arguing just stating a point! Yep I know what a garboard plug is, I have been fishing and boating longer than you have been around . My bad on that I misunderstood you there I thought you were saying to wrench down the plastic one.
I pull my plug everytime I come out of the water so I personally like the plastic one. If it goes bad I will put a new one back. This is the case of opinions are like a butthole everybody has one!

yeah i figured you were talking about the other kind. I pull my plug every time as well, but I'm pretty anal about stuff like a drain plug or ratcheting straps or anything that could make a fun day of fishing a potential nightmare. plus I work in equipment rental and just trust metals more than rubber in most cases from my experiences there. Well have a good one bud and good luck out there this season. I like your Jave by the way!
