    I have to vent!

I know I just signed up and you guys don't know me for crap, but I have to vent and I figure this Stratos forum is a good spot, considering the source of I my frustration...sorry for book I'm about to write.

I am trying to buy my first bass boat...it's something I've wanted for a long time and I finally talked myself into. I've spent several weeks looking around the internet, reading, etc about different boats. That how I stumble across this forum. After all my looking and reading, I decided to focus on looking for a Stratos. They seemed to have looks, performance, fishability, ride and good value.

So...I found one online for sale, right around the corner from me..probably not 5 miles. A nice 2004 ProXL 201 at a good price. So last Friday I went to look at it and man was it a great looking ride. The boat didn't appear to have been heavily used for last 5 years at all. I had to leave town that afternoon to go to my grandmother's funeral, so I couldn't do anything right then..plus I wanted to just think it over a little more, big investment. The guy said that he hadn't had many calls about it and that he was only open until noon on Saturday so the chance of it selling was very slim. So, I thought about it over the weekend, decided I was going to do it and then called him Monday morning. I'll be danged if some guy didn't walk in Saturday morning, unexpected to the dealer, and bought the boat. Strike 1.

So...being extremely disappointed I went back and started my seach again. After seeing that Stratos, I have become set on finding one of some sort. Well, I found a 2002 19XL, but it was in Georgia (I'm in Texas). It had a good price on it...quite a bit lower than the 201, but looked good and seemed like it'd be a really good boat for me. I figured I could eat a little extra cost for shipping and a plane ticket...and maybe offset some of it by getting a better price on the boat. I had seen this boat up for sale for weeks by the way. So Tuesday afternoon I try to call...the receptionist says they only have one sales guy in and he was busy right then loading up a boat for someone. They were supposed to call back that day but didn't so I called on Wednesday morning. Want to guess what boat he was loading up? That's right...the one I was looking at. Strike 2.

So...back we go to searching. So yesterday I find a 2005 195XL a few hours awa. I had noticed the boat for sale before, but for some reason didn't pay much attention to it. The picture wasn't particularly good and the price didn't stand out at first. But, I went and started looking a bit closer and thought hey, that boat is pretty nice looking and after some research the price seemed to be actually pretty good. So..I try to call about it today. I called the number listed and the woman didn't know what I was talking about! I used my cell phone which logs the number I dial and I checked it about 5 times to make sure I dialed what was listed...and I did. It may be possible that there was some weird mis-connection to the wrong number through my cell phone. I am going to try again, but the odds of that are slim to none...so it looks like strike 3!

Anyways...going to keep looking I guess. There are lots of other boats for sale out there, but they have to be in reasonable distance of a large city I can fly to and not be so far away that the shipping costs are through the roof, so that limits it somewhat.

Sorry for all the text...if you made it this far, thanks for reading!

Man, sorry to hear about the tough luck. I bought some cars from a guy that had a saying on his wall. "The car you look at today and want to think about until tomorrow may be the same car someone looked at yesterday and wanted to think about until today."

What kind of range are you looking in? There are a lot of dealers on this site that are sponsors that would love to help you out, both with the deal itself, but also with delivery. I'm partial to C&O Marine http://www.candomarine.com and they are always getting great used boats in so be sure to check them out. I like the looks of this '05 200 Pro they have.

If we can help you out any at all with your questions, please let us know. Also if you find a boat that you want a member to go look at, just ask for some help. I'll bet you'll find someone that lives close that can check it out for you and might save you a trip to look at something less than perfect.

    Thanks for reading!

It'll work out eventually...I'm anxious to get a boat and start some serious fishing, but I don't want to settle.

That 200XL is nice, but a bit more than I was looking to spend if I can avoid it.

They do have a good looking '03 201 ProXL that is close. I actually wish it only had a 225 believe it or not and was a dual console. I'll never use the power of the 250 and that ups the price a bit I'm sure.

Do not underestimate the value of a 250. I own a 2002 Magnum 21XL Stratos(similar to a 201) with a Mercury Pro XB 250 EFI and it is awesome. If fuel mileage is not an issue and the boat has a XB 250, you might want to rethink your decision. Ask more than myself on this forum about the boat/motor combo and the Mercury HIPO board if interested. In either case, good luck with your decision because the Stratos boats in that class are awesome IMHO.

Anyone know if there were modular consoles for the '03 201?

    The search function is amazing!

Looks like starting in 2003, the ProXLs did have modular consoles.

If we have something you like, we can get it to you and GUARANTEE it'll be what we say it is when you see it.

On a long distance used sale we take pictures of every flaw on the boat....we'll send the good pictures after you see all the bad. It's worked great for 10 years now and thousands of happy used boat buyers.

Yep, starting in 2003, the 195/295/294, the 200, and the 201 all had modular consoles. The 285 did not get them until recently.

I don't know if you have looked at the for sale pages here, but my boat is on there. 05 201 about as sharp as you can get. I live right outside Savannah, Ga which has a major airport. River dor test ride is minutes away. Take a look and let me know what you think. My e-mail is in my profile..

Also you might want to see if your pop-up blocker is blocking ims and allow them from BBC..

I'm pretty sure you should hire me. Just boat a up and tell me to considering pursuing purchase and I'm pretty sure it'll sell within a couple of days.

Re: I have to vent! (Todd Morgan)

    That's what I am hoping!

I just talked to a guy about an '03 201, but he said it had an Evinrude 200 Ficht on it...'03 as well, Bombardier motor.

I've heard really bad things associated with earlier versions (pre-2000) of the Ficht motors but not sure about later models. Any opinions on that motor?

    How would a 201 perform with a 200? 60s?

Edit: One more question...would it have an onboard computer that would tell hours and all that other fun stuff?

The 03's were good.....but the 200 will be tough to sell down the road. I'd keep looking.
