Concealed side mount for E-Tec 175 2006 model

    Purchased new Nov06 a 175 E-tec as a repower on 18' ski boat hull (Haines Hunter 1800S0).

Problem: The tilt switch (down) inside the concealed side mount control & is difficult to hold "down" continously when trimming motor.

In fact, with further thought, my NEW concealed side mount fitted with motor looks exactly as the 80's 90's (year) manufactured Evinrude/Johnson product.

    I have 3 questions

    (i) Did BRP issue a updated concealed side mount that I just happened NOT to get with my new motor

(ii) Would a warranty claim for switch be a whole new concealed side mount or just the switch. It does'nt look like it comes apart.

(iii) The I command classic gauges fitted (great expense) show software as Ver 1.1.1 - is this the version that these show skiers (May07 blog) are using who had problems holding a continous speed throughout the throttle range.

Fantastic motor - fiddly at start - but highly recommended to any pending purchaser

Re: Concealed side mount for E-Tec 175 2006 model (canningtonj)

I'll try to help out with answers to what I know -

BRP came out with a new concealed side mount control about a year ago, it is much more robust than the old style, less plastic in the linkages. Was not readily available until spring 07, I got one in my new boat in about May of 07.

The trim switch for the control you have is available separately, I've replaced a few myself for the same reason. Warranty claim will just cover the switch or perhaps the handle w/switch.

I don't believe any of our show teams were using I-Command. I have them in my personal boat but as you say, they are a bit pricey. We'll be getting three new 150 E-Tecs in a month or so. If you provide your model number and serial number the experts here can tell you if you have the latest/best software for your application.

Typically for the skiing applications propping those small blocks real low makes them perform great. I love the old black SST prop in 15, 16 and 17 pitch.
