    Trailer tire blowout

I was headed home Monday nite and the right trailer tire exploded at 70 mph. The steel belts whooped the paint off the fender and bent it up pretty good. Another chunk of the belt tried to rip the wiring out of the tail light. Luckily the fender took the beating and instead of the boat. When I finally made it home I found a big chunk of tread on the front deck! I bet the person behind me got a good wake up call! I was really surprized. The tires look brand new and they are only 3 years old. Oh well. Anyone have any recommendations on some good trailer tires?

Are the fenders on Stratos trailers replaceable?

Stay away from the goodyear marathons. They suck.

They are the dreaded Marathons. I will be getting 3 new tires. I have read some good reviews on both the Maxxis and Kumho trailer tires.

I will try to post some pics of the damage this weekend.

Everyone check their valve stems! Mine were trashed, dry rotted and cracked on my 2005 Stratos. Had all of them replaced including the spare...

    Re: Trailer tire blowout (EDUBYA)

People talk trash about the Marathons, but I have run them on my last 2 boats and had no issues... I had my '96 201 pro on single axle trailer for 6 years on same tires (35,000 miles plus) and now my '04 201 pro on dual axle trailer with well over 40,000 miles on the original tires and they are still good...Issues normally come with improper pressures or the fact that most drivers cannot keep the right side tires on the road when going around a curve and beat that tire to death...

    Re: Trailer tire blowout (201pro)

I assure you that is not the case with my rig. I have had many marathons go bad. They seperate, get knots, or just plain old "fly apart". I wouldn't put them on anything. As a matter of fact, I don't think I have ever worn one out. They fail long before that happens.

You might want to try Carlisle radial trailer tires. I've had good success w/ them & they are less expensive than Marathons.

Trailer tires are rated at max speed of 65mph.

The trailer fenders on the Stratos can be replaced. Go stainless!!

Good idea. Do you know how much they cost?

I'd have to get you to call Ms. Carol in parts at C&O. Parts line: 888-868-0361 I like stainless since they don't rust and don't need paint.

I had them on my trailer, 4 yers old and about 10K mi on them.1st one blew in the morning and 100 mi later coming back the other blew. both looked brand new. The belts had separated on both. I replaced them with Marathons before I read all the horror stories on those. I carry 2 spares now and will try coopers next time around although the GY's seem to ride and hold pressure than the Carlisles.
