    machine shop recomendations

Hello everyone. I have a 1989 200 hp evinrude that I need to get bored out and one sleeve put in. Can anyone recomend a marine machine shop near Jonesboro AR or Memphis, TN. The last machine shop that I used screwed up the bore and now I am having to buy new pistons again and another bore/sleeve job. Any help is appreciated. Thanks....Jon

Also, what size ring gap is recommended on these things? I have a clyber manual but have not found the info. yet.

Best bet now is to re-sleeve all of them and use the standard pistons you have. Std bore sleeves will run you about $80 each + shipping. Then honed out to size. I'm not in the shop now so I can't give you the exact size for the ring gap.

Hey champioNman, the price that i got for putting in a sleeve was about 300.00. 5 of my cylinders are .020 over and one .040. How are these sleeves put in? Can they be put in outside of a machine shop?

To put the sleeves in, they usually have to machine the old one out, then they will but the new one in....

Nope you put the block in an oven and heat it up for about 20 minutes then you pull the sleeves out with a leather glove. Back in the oven to heat again then pop in the new sleeves. You have about 15 seconds per cylinder to put in the sleeves. If you don't get it right then just put it back in the oven. The block is cast so it heats quicker than the sleeve.

Here is a link to my sleeve supplier http://www.promarineusa.com they are out of FLA, cost for a sleeve for a 90* looper is about $80.00.

For some unknown reason, I was thinking they machined out the same as a car block... oops! Oh well, MARFAB has always done my stuff, tell them what I want, and go get it..... :)

I just tell the wife to make a cake then I put the block in before she gets to the kitchen! She says what is this? I just tell her it is block a'la orange .

Just don't go try and heat cure any carbon fiber parts in your wifes oven, or she'll be getting a new oven......G

    Re: (Garfish)

Been doing this stuff for a long while G, I know about carbon fiber as I was part of the original F-18 carbon fiber cutting process at Northrup/Grumman. The company I worked for sold them a carbon fiber cutting machine and I installed it back in 1981.

I've done a lot of tech stuff besides working on outboards. BTW I am OMC certified, just not DFI or E-Tec. as I am an independent .
