Just for refference! 1996 295 Pro XL Steering cables!

Anyone that has an early 295 PRO XL might want to put a note in there file that they use 13' Steering cables!

I contacted Stratos and they told me that they used 14' so that is what I ordered on there advice. They were wrong! I was able to install 14' ones but it would have been better to have had 13' original sized ones.

It was not an easy job, it took me and a friend five hours to replace the entire unit. Couldn't get the old ones out without cutting the racks off the old ones, even though I tied a rope to the last cable before removing it, we had a very hard time getting the new ones fed back through! Not easy to get the rods into the engine while feeding either!

    Glad it's done now though!

There is a fine line between \"FISHING\" and just standing in the boat going through the motions!!!

i did mine with 14ft,that's what came on it,cut mine off at the motor and pulled them out from under the dash with rope attached and pulled the new ones right back through.it is much easier to do if you take the motor loose..me and my dad did mine in about 3 hours.with my jack plate i think 13ft would be very close if not too short.
