Priming Bulb Question on 1991 VRO 175 FastStrike

Hi Stratos Nation, I just read the post where a guy asked if he needed to pump his priming bulb to keep it firm/hard/whatever and thought it was a good time to ask my concern.
Here goes: My proming bulb is always soft. It seems like I can't get it to ever stay firm. ( I'm even laughing out loud while I type this )
Could this be a reason that I'm getting fuel restriction signal periodically while running? Should I try to replace it and see what happens?
Please send me any/all thoughts and advice. Funny or Serious, Rick

Basically the engine alarm on the 60 degree engine is for a fuel restriction.

It would be worth your time to start at one end and go to the other with new fuel line and fittings.....especially on a 91.

They have a pill for that now.

    (sorry, I couldn't resist.)

I had the same issue with my '97 150 Johnson faststrike. After replacing the bulb and fuel hose it was still no help. I was told it was probably the VRO had a pinhole in the fuel pump bladder. Instead of replacing the entire VRO for the fuel pump, I installed a 1.5-4 lb. psi inline electric fuel pump ( about $40.00 ) I bought at the local auto store. I connected it to the ignition wiring harness so when I turn on the key it starts pumping fuel to the carbs. Have had no problem since and the bulb is always firm. Boat starts easier and runs great.

Thanks for the advice and info Todd and others. I'll try to replace the entire fuel line system.
