Hey everybody, I have recently purchased a 2004 Stratos 285 Magnum with a 2004 175 HP Johnson 2 stroke, the man I purchased it off of said it would run around 66 mph on a GPS....Here is the problem, I put it on the water for the first time this morning, and I couldn't get it over 52 mph, and it would not get over 4400 RPM's at full trim, and the holeshot seemed really sluggish....Here's the setup...It has a 6" SlideMaster Jack-Plate, a 25 P Mercury Tempest prop and also he added a Hot-Foot to it....This is my first big bass boat, I owned a 275 ProXL with a 115 Johnson before buying this one...I have no idea what to do now, I have never fooled with a jackplate, nor different size props...I live in West Virginia, and a friend of mine said that smaller props are often used in higher elevations...Does that make any sense?....The prop has holes in the back of it that have small black plugs in them, they're are 3 of them and the owner before me drilled holes in them, he said that was for better holeshot....Is that true?....Also, when I was goin down the lake as fast as it would go and trimmed all the way, I noticed that there was almost half of the boat still in the water, My little 275 with a 115 done better than that...lol....I got smoked by a TR186 with a 150 Mercury XR6 this morning....Please guys, any information is very much appreciated and I would love to know what SET-UP is best for my boat...Thanks
