SaVonna at Mark's High Performance Propeller helps me recover my stolen prop!

So I go to take my trash can out to the road last Tuesday. I keep it by the back of my boat which is stored under a carport on the side of my house. I glance down and I notice my prop is M.I.A. Obviously angry as hell because it happened and mad at myself because I didn’t have a prop lock AND I also have an alarm on my boat but it was turned off. I’m guessing it would have at least beeped and maybe scared the person off. The sensitivity is turned down because loud trucks (even mine sometimes) will send it into alarm. Anyways, I get on “Offerup” and see an ad for a Tempest posted on Sunday. No actual photo of the prop though. I mail the person and ask for specifics. I told him I was looking for a 23P or 25P but that I really don’t know crap about props and does he know if it’ll fit on a Smoker Craft with a 150 on it. (I have a Champion with a 200HP Yamaha) He said it’s a 25P and he doesn’t know anything about them either. So I ask is there any other numbers on it that I could research? He said yes and he would send me pics. I had a Tempest 48-825866 A45 25P with a Yamaha hub, 2 plugs in the Vent holes and slightly dinged on all 3 blades. And that’s EXACTLY what the pictures reflect that he sends to me!!! So I had already filed a Police Report and fill them in on what had transpired. Long story short, they weren’t sure if they could assist me and would have to have a person from that Division call me. So my concern was, if I do set it up as to where the Police are there and this guy gets arrested (sounded like that would not really be an option, I know the police have bigger crimes to deal with), well he does know where I live. Also, I had sent this prop to Mark Croxton a little over 2 years ago. I phoned and spoke to SaVonna and she was on top of it! Gave me the 4 digit number they stamp on your prop when they repair it. That would be proof! So after sleeping on it (not worth getting killed over a prop but I hate thieves) I decide to meet up with this guy at a Walmart. After all, I’m a BBC member that pays cash for everything and we don’t take s*** from anyone! LOL!! So I’m with my sister-in-law in her car because my other friends (NOT BBC'rs) all p****ed out!! My sister-in-law was ready to bring her .380!! As we pull up I write down his plates and take pictures of his truck which is a newer lifted Dodge Ram 3500. Nicer than my truck!! We get out and introduce ourselves and we put the prop on his tailgate. I immediately see the 4 digit number SaVonna gave me! I tell him “I don’t know where you got this from but this was stolen from me this weekend” I give him the matching 4 digit number I had written down on a piece of paper out of my front pocket. I tell him there are no police here, I understand things happen and people go thru a lot of s*** in life and I’m not looking to get you arrested, I just want my prop back. Of course he acts like he had no Idea, I got it from a friend, can’t stop apologizing….the whole 9 yards. What he doesn’t know is I have 4 cameras outside my house. Since the ad was posted Sunday I figured it happened on Saturday night. I review the footage and see someone come into my yard at 2:32AM and leave 8 minutes later. Then I see HIS truck (yes his) leave less than a minute later. So if it wasn’t him, it was someone driving his truck. LOL!!! About 2 hours later the Police call me. I explain what happened and give them the info I attained. So at least they know who he is. It appears this is not his first rodeo.

Just thought I would share. Maybe this will help some of you other guys. And a big THANK YOU to SaVonna!!

Well done, glad you kept your cool and didn't end up dead or in jail. Not surprised at all that mark and his wife were able to help you, they keep good records. I was at his shop twice this week and with all the props he has plus all the animals from his taxidermy business I don't know how they keep it all straight but they do.

Well the issue was you cannot see the license plate number on my video and you cannot 100% identify him either. Also, the theft took place in Pierce County Washington and I met him in King County. So there's an issue there as well. The Detective told me they would not prosecute him based on that information. Even though they know it's him, they MUST have proof positive. They did get his name from the license plates and was able to obtain his address. He also has a Facebook Page. I was able to identify him 100% as the person I met with. He used a different name than the one that's on his OfferUp account. The Detective did tell me that they have fake accounts and actively make offers on things they have reason to suspect is stolen merchandise.

That's weird. I never even heard of "offer up". I wouldn't have a clue where to look in a case like that. I think you got very coincidentally lucky just to run across it let alone getting it back .Congrats.

Yes indeed I got lucky. When he sent me the pics and I seen the number and the fact that it was an A45 Tempest (which by the way is a bad ass prop), I knew right then it was mine. And as far as "OfferUp" goes, it's similar to Craigslist but easier and quicker. A lot of flakes on OfferUp though. You can find some great deals on things. Iv'e bought a few things using that app.
