    2001 20SS extreme set up

I just purchase a 2001 20SS Extreme w/ a 225 Evinrude Ficht. This boat is replacing my 96 201 pro xl w/ a 200 Evinrude. In which that old boat is for sale.
My question is about set up. I put a 6 inch Detwiler Hydraulic jack plate on it. I ran a 25 pitch renegade and got 74mph with a crazy chine walk. I put on a 26 Raker and lost a few mph. It doesn't chine walk as bad. I did notice that the 26 raker is rubbing on the inner walls of the lower unit.
My main concern is all the chine walking.
I did notice that the flat area above the prop is bent. Its actually bent up. Would this make the boat chine walk? Is the Extreme model notorious for this? I know the boat can run upper 70's but, can you drive it.? Thats the big question. I'm considering buying a 27 pitch prop. Any suggestions would be nice.

    Thanks
    Barry

I would try a 26 or 27 tempest and maybe come up a tad on the jackplate.

    Thanks for the reply.
I will go ahead and look for a prop that you recommended.
Do you think that beings the flat part of the lower is bent, its causing all of this chine walk? I have driven several stratos boats, but this one is scary.

No matter where I run the plate, I have great water pressure.
So, you think I should start about 3 1/2 inches below pad?

    Thanks so much,

Re: 2001 20SS extreme set up (barrysbassworld)

I have a 99 21 ss with a 225 ficht and I am currently running a 26 raker that is pretty worn but I will turn 5900-6000 all day long. I also have and will run sometimes a 25 renagade that is like new and it will turn it about 56-5800 and will not run as fast as the raker. I had mark croxton rework a 24 raker for me and it performed the best at 5900 and 74 gps fully loaded. I tore that prop up when west piont lake was down 12 feet I dont understand how you are getting so much chine walk with a 4 blade prop they are typically more stable. I can turn my steering wheel loose at 70+ mph with no chine on my 25 renagade and 26 raker. The only problem I have had with a raker is they will blow out when the bow breaks over but once hooked up they perform well.I think that a 27 or 28 pitch prop is to much prop. Now I have a fixed 5.5 plate and considering changing to hydro but not sure if I should go with a 6 or 8 inch plate.

Re: 2001 20SS extreme set up (THERAKE)

Thanks for all of the info.
As far as the hydraulic jack plate, I would highly recommend it.
The reasons behind it out weighs the manual by a long shot.
When your idling through weeds or shallow water, you can raise the plate and keep your lower unit in the water. If you have a manual plate you have to trim up really high and then you lose steering.
Another reason is when your trying to get up on pad in shallow water. I can raise my plate as high as it goes ( 4 blade prop) in less than 2 foot of water and pop up with no problem.
Aother thing that I do is when I'm on pad and entering shallow water, I raise my plate so high that the scag is an inch or two below the pad.
The last pro would be rough water handling. I lower my plate a bit and it rides great through rough water.
The only con I have is trying to find the sweet spot. Once you move it, it's hard to figure out where it was. I mark mine with a magic marker.

My opinion on how much set back would be, the bigger the better.
I will get this new boat of mine figured out. Lots of testing to be done, but when it's right, get ready to pass your buddies!!

    Thanks Again,
    Barry
