Need tips.
All that post I would thank you. I bought a manual on the engine.
This boat is in great hull shape, motor turns over, tilt, lower unit, engine, lower gears, trim, ALOT OF STORAGE, trailer new tires and bearings, pumps, tanks, transom, shooter prop, 95' 750 thrust all in the good.
Cons, #8 piston, low compression, Top side needs new rug, console is good but weathered, Trailer slide not braking,

Questions,

I think I need a new gel coat on the top of boat but is it better to strip and have the top side re painted?
(It is weathered and I can feel the gliter I run water over it but it still has a kinda dull look to it).


Should I restore this boat with the idea of factory to help the resale or just trick it out the way I find to my interest?

Sounds like you got a pretty good deal. Check the restoration boards and that should be the ticket. I have a 91 201 Pro and have redone most of the boat with help from the forums here. Welcome!

first off if you bought a clymers manual for the engine it is not really the factory manual or repair guide for the engine. you need to go to http://www.kencook.com http://www.outboardbooks.com/ and buy one from there as they are true factory manuals. you can go to evinrude or brp and find the link there. low compression on #8 needs a refresh anda through going over by a certified tech unless all are within 10-15 of each other.
brakes call c+o or stratos on what trailer brake system you have. top cap can be done by a fiberglass shop pricy but should be great looking afterward. carpet bass boat carpets do it your self call and tell them what model and such and they can cut it to specs. about 2-300 for the carpet, good luck
