Hello,
What is the benefit, if any, of adding a jack plate to a 285 XL? The boat
is powered by an 07 Optimax 150 turning a 23p tempest prop.
Also, would a 6 inch plate be the way to go?
Thanks in advance,
Tony

The jack plate will set the engine back just a bit and allow just a bit more performance. In addition, it allows some customization with the engine height to yield better hole shot or speed or both!![]()

My brother and I both ran 285s with Evinrude 150s. Mine, with a standard 150, ran the same speed as his, which was a H.O. The only difference was the jacking plate (manual, 6"), so I can vouch for better performance. Both ran at 63-65 MPH with 24" Raker props, one-up.

I would try a 24 tempest, I ran a 24 and a 25 pitch tempest, 63gps with no jackplate
I ran a 25 Tempest on my 285 w/ 6" plate and 150 Johnson. Max I saw was 65 and it was great out of the hole.![]()

While on the subject, can you also recommend a prop for same boat with a Yamaha 150 VMAX and 6" manual plate? Currently running the stock 23 yamaha prop but the dealer suggested a 25. Thanks.
